Welcome to my Wordshop

I am Paula S. Jordan, a lifelong reader of science fiction and fantasy, a former orbit analyst for NASA and NOAA, and a long-time writer in a variety of fields. Now, at last, I am getting back to my roots.

I have just moved the site to WordPress from another location, and some pages are still under construction. Please forgive the dust. All should be completed shortly and I’ll be moving earlier posts over from the old site for archival here.

My stories are science fiction, unless they’re southern. Some are both, with an occasional foray into fantasy. I blog about reading, writing, things I learn on the way to writing, and anything else I like. I’ll be posting weekly both  here on my Wordshop blog and on the group science fiction and fantasy blog at DarkCargo.com.

I have published a novelette and two short stories in the field so far, all in Analog.Science Fiction and Fact..

Both “Two Look At Two” (April, 2011) and its sequel, the novelette “Vooorh,” (July/August, 2014,) were  adapted from the first novel of a contemporary alien contact series set in the mountains of western North Carolina. That novel is well in progress and advancing steadily.

“The Gift of Unbinding” (May 2001,) my first published story, is a near-future look at Humanity’s first permanent steps beyond Earth. Other stories, fantasy as well as science fiction, are also in development.

  1. Paula, it was wonderful sharing a panel with you at Balticon this weekend. Your reading was inspiring to me. Thank you!

    • Hello, David. Thank you for your very kind words. I am sorry to be so late responding. I have been both traveling (a month-long road trip through the southwest. Wonderful!) and other distractions. I very much enjoyed sharing the panel with you as well, and enjoyed your work. Best of luck with your writing. Maybe we’ll share a panel again next year.
